Salutations
all!
After a break
from blogging I am back. And yes, after a bit of a health scare, I am still
author-ing.
I shall be
updating this blog regularly with writing
bits and bobs that I’ve been researching and with what I am writing. I have had
to rethink my plans as an author a bit.
So, what have
I been up to author wise in the year since I last blogged?
There are many
things from novel plans and short stories I am writing among many other things.
On this blog,
I will be putting up things that inspire me as an author. There’ll be stuff on history, folklore, horror, the
supernatural, the paranormal as well as hints that have helped me hone my craft
as an author. So keep checking in!
My
planned novel
I have been
planning a novel. It will be a tour of war torn France during the
Franco-Prussian War.
My characters
will be chasing a portion of a fragmented demon across Northern Europe. From
Derby, they will visit the Queen’s Own Menagerie in Edinburgh, the grave of a
werewolf family by the side by Loch Langavat and witness the Siege of Paris.
There’ll also
be the dissection of a goblin, the sunken city of Ys, the grave of Merlin on
Brittany and final showdown at Mont Saint Michel.
Mont Saint Michel, Normandy, France |
There’ll even
be a cameo with the last of the St Malo corsairs.
I hoping it’ll
end up as a full on dark fantasy in the old penny dreadfuls, pulp fiction style.
There are also
several other ideas for novels I will get to writing, they need a little more
mastication though before I reveal to you what they’re about. The only thing
I’ll say is that there’ll be a strange library and a fantastical museum
carefully concealed in a pocket dimension!
Short
Story plans
I
have several short stories in the pipe line. Many will be available as eBooks
over the course of the next year.
Most
of them are based in Derby or Derbyshire, because there’s so much cool
horror, supernatural, paranormal things happening there.
The
stories will be about Obadiah Morticaine: Victorian black magician, monster
hunter, agent for the Institute of Heretical Management and accidental hero,
and his brother Jerry, playwright and chronicler of Obadiah’s adventures.
They’ll
hold séances between bickering ghosts and build their own Frankenstein’s
monster – that’ll then take on a dead dragon’s ethereal imprint on our world in
a stately home.
They’ll
also take on the Hound Priest, rid the author’s minds of an insidious
dream-daemon, raise beings from another dimension on the last train to Derby and witness ancient rituals at a Derbyshire stone circle – modern
technology can be wondrous some times.

There’ll
also be a mummy on the rampage, an inland mermaid offering immortality and also
an encounter with Cerne’s Wild Hunt.
There’ll
be more on this to come. I’ll be sharing some of my research.
Other
Writing Plans
I
have a film based on one of my short stories in the pipe line. Funding has been
a bit of a problem, so has the location, but it will come together over the
course of the next year. It’s from the point of view of a raven. SMK Studios
and I hope that it’ll be a really novel piece and offer a really enjoyable
piece.
I
am also helping out with an art exhibition during the Wirksworth Festival this year. Organisation has been a bit of an
adventure in itself, but it will be a real fun event. There’ll be regular séance most nights lead by a paranormal investigator called Adam
Bagley – check him out – and readings of my short stories from myself. There is
a paranormal and supernatural theme to the exhibition.
Most of the art work will be by Ian Wadsworth – his art is marvellous, another guy to check out. His art work is based
around the reinvention of the tarot deck’s Major Arcana.

Plus,
I have started writing articles for a
website about juggling and other circus performance acts at www.bunchoftossers.info.
All the articles are light hearted. Take a look at the website. There’ll be
tutorials and historical articles
being put up all the time.
